The good: Good performance and battery life; responsive keyboard; three-year warranty; screen-brightness sensor.

The bad: A little heavy for holding in one arm; three-prong AC adapter; no FireWire, parallel ports, or optical drive.

The bottom line: First of the third generation of tablet PCs, the HP Compaq Tablet PC tc4200 convertible has a lot to like, from its top-shelf performance to its nearly five-hour battery life.

Completely new--inside and out--the convertible HP Compaq tc4200 tablet has a high-strength magnesium base and uses the latest Sonoma technology to deliver high performance with excellent battery life. On the downside, it will disappoint those looking for dedicated video memory, an optical drive, and some vital business ports. Measuring 1.5 inches thick by 11.1 inches wide by 9.3 inches deep and weighing 4.7 pounds, the dark-gray tc4200 tablet is on a par with Toshiba's Portege M200 convertible tablet but a few ounces heavier than the Motion M1400 Tablet PC. Add in the 9-ounce AC adapter, and the Tablet PC tc4200 hits the road with a reasonable travel weight of 5.2 pounds. The key to its success is that its LCD lid swivels clockwise and easily folds flat for write-and-run operations; an adequate stylus pops out of the tablet's side. Unlike any other tablet, the tc4200 offers the same processor, hard drive, memory, and software as the ultraportable HP Compaq nc4200 Notebook PC, which should make deploying it in a corporate environment easier.
A dead ringer for the slightly lighter nc4200 Notebook PC, the HP Compaq tc4200 is built around a magnesium base, an internal frame, and a laminated plastic wrist-rest area, all of which should help it stand up to the daily punishment of busy executives. The keyboard is firm, responsive, and logically laid out, with textured, reasonably sized keys, although the slightly undersized spacebar might cause problems. For those who hate having to choose, the system has both a pointing stick and a large touch pad with a dedicated scroll zone on the side. However, the touch pad is too close to the keyboard, and unlike other HP notebooks, the tc4200 has no switch to turn it off; chances are high that you could brush the touch pad as you're typing and accidentally displace your cursor.
Because it is meant to be used as a tablet with the keyboard out of reach, the tc4200 has a convenient jog dial on the side that helps whiz through long Web pages or PowerPoint files. The glass writing surface, however, is a little too smooth for our taste; there's not quite enough resistance on the stylus to make you feel like you're writing naturally. The system does offer excellent screen controls for rotating between Landscape and Portrait modes, bringing up the character-input screen, and opening HP's exclusive Qmenu software, which consolidates all the configuration data you could ever want. Like the Electrovaya SC-2000 tablet, the tc4200 has a light sensor and continually adjusts the display's brightness. While we like the push-button volume controls, the system's single speaker does better with the spoken word than it does with music.
Inside the HP Compaq tc4200's case is a mostly up-to-date system that marks the start of the third generation of tablets. HP offers a few choices of components for various needs and budgets; see our take on the tc4200 series for more information on configuration options. Our $2,099 (as of May 2005) test machine came with a 1.8GHz Pentium M Sonoma processor and 512MB of 400MHz RAM, expandable up to 2GB--although we have to wonder about those who think they need that much memory in a tablet PC. While the system lacks an internal optical drive, it does have a high-speed 5,400rpm, 60GB hard drive.
Forget about dedicated video memory; the system uses Intel's integrated 915GM graphics engine, which borrows up to 128MB of main system memory. The 12.1-inch XGA screen produces bright and clear images but pales in comparison to the 14-inch display on the admittedly heavier Acer TravelMate C301XCi. In addition to its infrared window, the tc4200 has Bluetooth and an Intel 802.11b/g radio and a pair of lid-mounted antennas; in our anecdotal tests, it was able to stay in contact 115 feet from our base station--a little farther than average.
Balancing performance and battery life is the tc4200's strong suit. The system scored a 193 on CNET Labs' mobile benchmarks, putting it light-years ahead of the Averatec C3500 and the Motion M1400, both of which have slower CPUs. The tc4200's battery pack ran for 4 hours, 56 minutes, more than an hour longer than the one on the Portege M200 and nearly three hours longer than the one on the Averatec C3500. If that's not enough, HP's unique U-shaped add-on battery can extend use by a few more hours for full-day computing.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is the rather wordy successor to the popular Galaxy Tab 10.1, an Android tablet which managed to challenge the iPad in almost every department, which are some pretty big shoes to fill.

Unveiled by Samsung in February at MWC 2012, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was confusingly launched alongside the Galaxy Note 10.1 which sported a similar, if slightly more premium, look and a S-Pen stylus, something the former does not have.

However unlike its blockbuster predecessor, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is only available with 16GB of internal storage and Wi-Fi only, and launch at a £299 price tariff. However the cost has taken a tumble and you're now able to pick it up for under £240 in a few outlets.

The lack of a 3G model in the UK and larger storage capacities means that the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 isn't as much of a contender to the new iPad as the original was to the iPad 2, with the middle to high end of the market more suited to its price.

Where does this leave the Tab 2 10.1 one then? Well, rubbing shoulders with the likes of the Toshiba AT200, iPad 2, Asus Transformer Pad 300 and Acer Iconia Tab A200.

Take one look at the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and you'll notice immediately that it's undergone a dramatic redesign from the original Galaxy Tab, as Samsung looks to distance its devices from Apple's iconic iPad – something which has landed the South Korean company in trouble before and seen the Galaxy Tab 10.1 taken off the shelves in some countries.

which are actually two speakers either side of the 1280 x 800 LCD display.

The large black bezel around the screen is further increased by the additional grey plastic chassis wrapping round from the back, providing some unnecessary bulk and little design flair, something other tablets like the uniquely shaped Sony Tablet S manage to bring to the table.

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 isn't huge, with its 9.7mm deep body meaning it's actually a shade slimmer than the Transformer Pad 300 and Iconia Tab A200, although it does feel porkier than the iPad 2 (8.8mm) and super-slim AT200, which clocks in at a mere 7.7mm.

The unassuming lighter grey plastic back of the Tab 2 10.1 leaves little to be desired in the style department, giving off the air of cheapness. However the tablet does feel strong and well built, with no flex experienced with the case or screen.

Thanks to the plastic build, Samsung has managed to keep the weight of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 at a reasonable level, with the slate tipping the scales at 587g, making it lighter than its Acer, iPad and Asus rivals, but once again the dinky Toshiba steals in at 558g.

Samsung has brought down the price of its 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 slate to Rs. 25,900 from Rs. 31,990

Tech giant Samsung has been able to grab a major chunk of the smartphone market but as far as the tablet market is concerned, it still has a long way to go. Amongst all that local competition, Samsung has been hoping to carve a niche for itself with its 3G enabled Galaxy Tab 2. Perhaps it is for this reason that it has reduced the slate’s retail price by approximately Rs. 6,000. Saholic is offering the Tab 2 for Rs. 25,900.
The 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and a 7,000 mAh battery. It runs on Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich operating system but given the upcoming launch of Apple’s iPad and iPad Mini slates in the country, it will most likely upgrade it to the Jelly Bean platform in the near future.
Samsung’s tablet ships with an internal memory of 16 GB and a RAM of 1 GB. External memory on the slate can be extended by up to 32 GB. The Tab 2 is equipped with a 3-megapixel primary camera and a VGA front shooter for video calls. Connectivity options on the device include USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and A-GPS. It’s 10.1-inch TFT LCD screen sports a resolution of 1280x800 pixels and supports 16 million colours. 
When Samsung had originally launched the Galaxy Tab 2, it had priced it at over Rs. 32,000. Given its features and all the local players that offer inexpensive, competent slates in India, the second generation Tab has not done as well as could have. Now that Apple is about to enter the fray with its own new and improved iPad and iPad Mini, competition for Samsung’s tablet is about to go up even more.
Bringing its price down might help pump up sales, but the tech giant would do even better by speeding up the Tab 2’s changeover to Jelly Bean.

HTC set to launch a 10-inch Windows 8 tablet this year: Report,

Though it has been over a year since HTC last launched a tablet, there have been rumors on the Internet recently stating that the Taiwanese company is working on Windows tablets. A report on FocusTaiwan now confirms this notion stating that HTC is set to launch a 10-inch Windows 8 tablet later this year.

The report states facts from a research note released by NPD DisplaySearch, a market research and consulting firm. A detailed list of specifications is currently not available and the only thing known is that the tablet will sport a 10.1-inch Full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, which will be manufactured by LG Display Unit. The report further states that mass production has already begun in the first quarter of this year and the tablet could be announced in the coming months.

HTC has previously dipped its hands in the tablet market to compete against the likes of the iPad by releasing a 7-inch HTC Flyer in February 2011 and a 10.1-inch HTC Jetstream tablet in September 2011. Both the Android tablets though didn’t do too well in the market. A tablet with decent specs and the right price might well prove to be a success in the yet nascent Windows tablet market.

Asus Nexus 7 32GB 3G variant launched in India for Rs 21,999, 32GB Wi-Fi model for Rs 18,999.

Only last week Google started retailing the Nexus 7 from the Indian Google Play store but unfortunately, it was the 16GB Wi-Fi only model. Today Asus has announced it is bringing the recently-unveiled 32GB model in both 3G and Wi-Fi only flavors to India. The 3G model will cost Rs 21,999 and the Wi-Fi only model will be a good deal cheaper at 18,999.

Google for its part is selling the 16GB Wi-Fi model via the Play Store for Rs 15,999, but these newer 32GB SKUs will be offered at retail outlets and will be distributed by Asus.

As we already know, the Nexus 7 is powered by a the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, and it has a 7-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. Additionally, it has 1GB of RAM, a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera and is powered by Android 4.2.

Trust us; we have an impish grin on our face as we do this comparo! The world knows about the age old vendetta between these two mobile manufacturing giants. No prizes for guessing, we are talking about the Samsung- Apple rivalry! Never for once did Apple find itself standing in the gadgets rally without an evenly poised dark horse from the Samsung stable.
2012 has been a significant year for both the mobile giants. It is very difficult to decide upon the market clincher. For few Samsung stole the show with its wide range of choices and an innovative droid experience. Few sung glories for Apple swearing by their sheer quality and design!
Well, if you were not content with their global court clamor. Here is something which might give you a food for thought. Today, we present the Galaxy Tab 2 vs. iPad 3 duel! Truth be told, the Galaxy Tab 2 shares no resemblance appearance wise, with its predecessors and the reason is known to many!  It was quite obvious after all the legal implications and Apple allegedly claiming that Samsung had “copied” the iPad design. We knew it was coming!  One part brave, two part fool!
Thus the Tab2 sports a revamped look. A new age silver bezel with variable spacing around enough to grip through those bumpy rides! The area above the display has been shrimped. The design is quite futuristic and certainly a cut above the predecessors by looks!
Apple on the other hand keeps up with the legacy. Infact the new iPad is tad beefier that the previous gen. Cheesy looks and the epic “Apple White” which it flaunts with pride is its USP. 
However Samsung doesn’t beat Apple by looks. It can possibly share the same spot.

Display

Coming to display and resolution. Apple is hands down winner for us. Its brisk new retina display is complete drool object. It gains a rare edge by embedding 3million pixels into the retina display, which powers a jaw dropping 2048×1536 pixels on a 9.7-inch IPS LED-backlit display. It’s a visual treat.
Samsung on the other hand has deployed a 10.1-inch PLS TFT screen offering a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. It engages no out of the block technology. The setup really is nuts-and-bolts to say the least.
